Nyack HS $300K Lunch-less Policy: Tues Night

Nyack's Board of Education has their first meeting tonight after announcing that it will dedicate $300,000 to prevent 9th and 10th graders from leaving school grounds for lunch. Although about half of those polled in an August survey favored the policy change, there has been less support for the board's actions now that the program's price tag has been announced. The $300,000 will cover the cost of adding ten additional security cameras to the 24 already in place and the hiring of up to eight more security people.

$300K To Close Campus for 9th, 10th Grades

Nyack Schools has set aside $300,000 for the current school year to end the open campus program for freshman and sophomore students. Part of those funds will be used to support a pilot program in September and October to revoke off campus lunch privileges for 9th and 10th graders.

Tree Trouble at Oakhill Cemetery

Nyack, August 26 -- Nyack's building inspector has issued a stop work order to Oak Hill Cemetery to halt further clear cutting of 19 trees that were supposed to be preserved. The trees can only be removed with the approval of two Village Planning Board members. Ten of the the 19 trees remain.
