AECOM Technical Services (AECOM) is pleased to submit a response to your proposal for
Feasibility Studies for the Nyack Superblock.
The AECOM Team is comprised of members of our economics and transportation
practices as well as the planning and architectural firm of Cooper Carry.
AECOM is a global provider of professional technical and management support services to
a broad range of markets including governments, transportation facilities, environmental,
energy, and water. AECOM provides a blend of global reach, local knowledge, innovation
and collaborative technical excellence in delivering solutions that enhance and sustain the
worlds built natural and social environments. A Fortune 500 company founded in 1990,
AECOM has annual revenue in excess of $6 billion generated from offices worldwide.
Locally, AECOM has several offices in New York State including Manhattan, Buffalo,
Chestnut Ridge, East Syracuse, Glen Cove, Ithaca, and Latham.
The economics practice of AECOM, which will lead the team, brings together over fifty
years of experience in market studies, financial feasibility analysis, cultural/tourism
strategies and downtown revitalization strategies. Founded over 50 years ago as
Economics Research Associates, a number of our assignments include cultural and
performing arts venues as anchors and catalysts for revitalization. Having an
understanding of the opportunities that the creative community brings to any
redevelopment effort allows us to develop short and long-term planning initiatives, actions
and recommendations that build upon arts and arts-related activities.
AECOM’s experience in performing comprehensive traffic engineering, parking studies,
safety analysis and intermodal transportation planning will support the redevelopment of
the Super Block. We pride ourselves on our ability to develop sound and implementable
projects, based upon our staff’s understanding of the technical elements of a given
program and to achieve consensus and support throughout the planning process. We are
known for developing creative solutions to address complex issues by thinking outside the
box and develop recommendations that are effective, implementable and accepted by the
community.
Cooper Carry, founded in 1960, is one of the nation’s most dynamic, context-driven design
firms focused on the creation of exceptional places – neighborhoods, buildings, spaces
and landscapes crafted to enrich the experience of life for the people who occupy them.
Cooper Carry’s professional team includes five key disciplines: planners, architects, interior
designers, landscape architects and environmental graphics designers.
The firm strives to help achieve the rebirth of the American city as a vital, sustainable,
stimulating environment that supports meaningful lifestyle and understands that a crosssection
of skilled planning talent is the best way to envision community enhancements that
help move our urban and suburban worlds closer to the idealized communities that people
desire. The goal of Cooper Carry is to create a true sense of place in every community we
touch and, through this, lift property values and complement the existing character of the
community.
Over the past five years, Cooper Carry has generated average annual revenues of $48
million from offices located in Manhattan, Atlanta, Washington DC and Newport Beach,
CA.
Shuprotim Bhaumik, Senior Vice President, will serve as Principal-In-Charge of the project.
Kate Coburn, Vice President, will be project manager and day-to-day contact and will lead
the market study effort. She will work closely with Bill Owens, Senior Vice President, who
will lead the cultural arts component of the project and Tammy Shoham, Associate, who
will conduct research for this assignment. Atma Sookram, Associate Vice President, will
lead all studies related to transportation and parking. He will be assisted by Senior Traffic
Engineers Eric Swenson and Mathew Lorenz. With the exception of Mr. Owens, who is
based in Washington DC, all AECOM personnel are based in Manhattan.
Leading the team for Cooper Carry will be Ben Wauford, Principal, and Ricardo Bermudez,
Senior Project Designer, who are both based in Manhattan.
Each of the key team members listed above will be directly involved with the work outlined
in the scope of services and will allocate time in their schedule in the next three months to
do so. We look forward to working with you on this very exciting project.
