Superblock RFP Response - Beyer Blinder Belle
On behalf of Beyer Blinder Belle and our consultant team, I am pleased to submit our
qualifications for feasibility studies for the Nyack Superblock . We have worked with cities
and communities of various sizes throughout the country, from New York City, to Norwalk
CT, to Columbus, OH.
Beyer Blinder Belle as Prime Consultant, together with Robert B. Pauls, economic
development consultant, Beckleman + Capalino, cultural consultant, and BFJ Planning,
Inc., transportation consultant, form a design and planning team capable of managing the
complexity of the project and process while meeting its high aspirations.
The Village of Nyack is fortunate to have a Mayor with a clarity of vision, as well as a
community that is committed to the future of the city and wishes to enhance its existing
reputation as a destination. We have found that clear planning can create a long-term vision
for an entire city, a plan for a growing or changing community, the design of a mixed-use
waterfront redevelopment, or the details of a public street. We work at each of these levels of
inquiry ‑ with a passionate commitment to the vibrancy of our cities and communities, the
spaces of shared public life. Based on our experience, we believe we can help the Village of
Nyack realize its vision. Among the many downtown areas we have planned are:
Watchcase Factory Redevelopment, Sag Harbor, NY: Sustainable restoration and
rehabilitation of an historic brick factory on 2.25 acres into housing, with parking and
landscaping.
Glen Isle, Glen Cove, NY: master plan for the redevelopment of a contaminated site into a
series of vibrant new waterfront neighborhoods.
District 95/7 SoNo, South Norwalk, CT: a new mixed-use development that creates a
neighborhood fabric and pedestrian experience, enhancing and extending the historic
SoNo restaurant and retail district.
Princeton University Arts and Transit Neighborhood, Princeton, NJ: public plazas,
cultural, performing arts and retail spaces combined with a multi-modal transit hub create
a vibrant mini-town that connects the community to the university.
These projects, and other relevant work, are described in detail in Section 5: Similar
Assignments in the Past Five Years.
Our team is passionate about this project and the opportunity to work with the Village of
Nyack. We look forward to future discussions on this important project.
