Due to the gas main break and fire from O&R street operations, emergency services is requesting that all persons avoid the area of Broadway from Third Ave to the North, and Main Street to the South in order to maintain a clear safety zone.
It is anticipated that service disruptions will occur.
2,500 homes are without power.
Some gas lines are being shut down. The extent is not yet known.

PEARL RIVER, NY June 21, 2012 5:30 p.m. — A 12-inch natural gas main caught fire this afternoon in Nyack at the scene of an O&R gas main replacement project in the village.
The fire began about 4:45 p.m. at First Avenue and Broadway as workmen were preparing a section of replacement gas pipe for installation.
O&R emergency crews responded to the scene to secure the area.
For safety, O&R shut off electric service to 2,449 electric customers in the immediate area of the accident. They subsequently restored electric service to all but 216 by 5:15 p.m.
