Planning Board
Although this is a small village (only one mile square), the Village of Nyack Planning Board plays an important role in shaping how our community will look, feel, act and react for our local residents, business owners and non-profit interests. Generally speaking, the Planning Board serves two important functions. First, it reviews “Site Plans” for proposed construction or alteration of many parcels of real property. Second, it decides whether a particular parcel in the Village can and should be sub-divided.
In making these decisions, the Planning Board is guided, generally, by its sense of the lot and the community, but more particularly, by the laws we have enacted relating to land use. For example, Nyack has adopted a Comprehensive Master Plan, which sets forth the general vision of the Village for the foreseeable future. To enact this “vision” a devoted and energetic group of individuals totally revamped the zoning code, which was enacted into law.
