10/31/11 1 PM Update from Neil Winter, Division director O&R:
Outages: 31,500 customers still out in the NY service area. Restoration efforts are now fully underway and cut and clear operations are continuing. O&R reports the following number of crews currently active and on the road: 85 overhead line crews and 25 tree contractors. 30 additional line crews will be on the road this evening, and 25 additional tree contractors by tomorrow morning. It is estimated that the restoration effort will continue through Friday of this week, and that 90% or more of customers with outages will be restored by then.
O&R is continuing to prioritize outages by identifying critical customers, by working with municipalities to identify critical outages and by determining the largest outages and restoring those areas first.
Reporting outages: O&R asks that if you have internet access, or have friends or neighbors who do, that their website is utilized for the reporting of outages (www.oru.com). O&R recognises that their phone capabilities were stretched as they received over 12,000 call per hour during the storm and its immediate aftermath, including most of yesterday. They have doubled the number of phone lines and are utilizing Con Ed operators to assist in taking calls. If you cannot access the website, outages can be phoned in using the regular customer service number (1-877-434-4100). The website also now can used to determine restoration effort information. This information is the same information that is utilized by customer service agents when folks call in.
Dry Ice: dry ice will be provided in Rockland County at the Boulders Ball Field in Pomona from 7-9 PM this evening. Dry Ice will also be provided at the Bergen County OEM facility (285 Campgaw Road in Mahway NJ 0743) during the same hours.
