I am devastated to report the death of Nan Gundersen, a beloved resident of our Village and one of those people who understood what it meant to be part of a community. I met Nan almost twenty years ago when I arrived in Nyack as a young mother. Her wonderful husband Bob brought us together with an introduction that went something like this “You two will like each other…you are quite a bit alike”.
To be compared to Nan was and remains an incredible honor. She was cheerful and funny, quick to laugh but always with her eye on making things better and correcting things that were not quite right. She was not content to sit on the sidelines and understood that the only way change happened was if you made it happen. She worked hard to make Nyack a better place, and took great pride in each step in the right direction. She persevered through opposition her white hair glowing, her shoulders set resolutely but always with a smile and a twinkle in her eye. Her deep intelligence, her commitment to Nyack and her wonderful soul will be deeply missed. Much love to her husband Bob and her son Scott. They will need us during this difficult time.
We will notify the community about any funeral or memorial arrangements.
