The Village of Nyack welcomes its new Sustainability Coordinator, landscape designer and consultant Marcy Denker, who will manage a Green Desk as part of the Village’s Planning Department. Marcy led the effort to create the successful Green Infrastructure Roundtable and Report last year, and has since helped to expand the Village’s environmental planning agenda. Nyack adopted the pledge to become a Climate Smart Community last fall (see http://www.midhudsoncsc.org/). And now with a new grant in hand from the Hudson River Valley Greenway Grants Program Marcy will organize a community based Green Policy Task Force that will create a Green Village Action Plan by the end of the year.
To be most successful the Green Policy Task Force will need the diverse skills and perspectives of a broad cross section of community members and leaders—from concerned residents and business owners to schools, churches, government, health care providers and environmental organizations. The efforts of the Task Force will focus on Nyack in the context of its neighbors and will recognize the importance of partnerships across municipal boundaries in building sustainable communities. Clarkstown and Orangetown leaders and residents beyond the Village are encouraged to participate.
