Steve, his wife Heidi Broecking and their son Devon have lived in Nyack for 12 years. Prior to serving on the Nyack Village Board, Steve served as the Chairman of the Nyack Zoning Board of Appeals from March 2000 through December 2009. He was also the Chairman of the Nyack Code Revision Committee responsible for bringing the Nyack Zoning Code into conformance with the Comprehensive Master Plan.

Steve has also served on a number of other Village committees (Comprehensive Master Plan, Streetscape, Mayor’s Taskforce on Superblock Redevelopment) and is active as a Village representative to the Tappan Zee Bridge/I-287 Corridor project serving on the Transit Oriented Development Working Group and the Bike/Pedestrian Technical Advisory Group.

Steve is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Palisades Parks Conservancy. Steve is a partner in the Locks Law Firm with primary responsibilities for the New York City and Englewood Cliffs offices of the firm. He is admitted to practice law in the states of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He is also a registered nurse, having specialized in emergency room and critical care medicine before becoming an attorney in 1991.

Steve holds a B.A. in Biology (Brooklyn College, CUNY (1980)); an A.A.S. in Nursing (College of Staten Island, CUNY (1983); and a Juris Doctor degree (cum laude) from the New York Law School (1991). He also holds an Advanced Certificate in Wine and Spirits from the Wine and Spirits Educational Trust (London, UK) An avid outdoorsman, his outdoor pursuits include alpine mountaineering, cross-country skiing, rock climbing, cycling, wilderness medicine, high-angle rescue and hiking.

Steve was appointed in 2009 by Mayor Richard Kavesh to serve out the remainder of Kavesh’s trustee term. Steve stood for election in November of 2010, running unopposed. His current term expires on December 31, 2012.
