Given the changes in the estimates of how much snow will fall in Nyack, we feel it important to declare an actual Snow Emergency. The weather reports now indicate the potential for over a foot of snow. Because residents were so respectful of the signs posted in Snow Emergency neighborhoods, very little adjustment to vehicle parking will be necessary.
If your car is parked on the street in the Snow Emergency zone , please move it either to another street, a driveway or to the Village lots where parking will be free. Please reference our Snow Emergency Overview page. This is mandatory so that public works can access your street and clear them as quickly as possible for public safety.
The emergency will go into effect at 12 noon, Saturday, January 23, 2016. High winds are expected. In the event of power outages, Village Hall will be available for warming and cell phone charging.
Public works has been performing street maintenance since 4:15 am. The south east area of the Village experienced a brief power outage in the early hours of today due to a vehicle accident. Power in that neighborhood has been restored.
We urge everyone to be cautious during the storm. Stay off the roads, shovel carefully and call 911 for any emergency. Should there be any downed power lines, call 911 immediately.
According to Village code, sidewalks must be cleared of snow within twenty four hours from the end of the storm so that community members can pass safely through the Village without walking in streets. If you do not feel you are able to clear your sidewalks, make arrangements for someone to help you.
This is the section of our code pertaining to snow removal from sidewalks…..just for your reference…..
