As many in the community are aware, there was a deeply sad act of vandalism at the Congregation Sons of Israel two nights ago. On the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day vandals ripped in half a sign describing the devastating human losses of WWII at the hands of the Nazis. This memorial is a familiar yearly display at the Sons of Israel and one that has powerfully, for many years, quietly reminded us of how vigilant we must be against hatred and persecution. We condemn this senseless and cruel act and we express our utmost sadness on behalf of our neighbors at Sons of Israel.
Rabbi Russo has asked that we convey an invitation to the public to join their Congregation on Saturday evening, April 18th, 300 North Broadway, Upper Nyack, from eight pm until eight thirty at the Havdallah service that draws to a close the Shabbat. Rabbi Russo’s hope is that our community will join her congregation, for half an hour, to silently express our support for all of them and to quietly denounce such acts of thoughtless and cruel vandalism.
