O&R Power Outages – 10/30/11

10/30/11 at 14:15

Here is an update for the Village of Nyack from the damage and power outages due to the snow.

Many wires are down due to heavy snow on the trees with leaves.  Village streets are all open with branches and trees cleared.  If you see any down power lines, stay away and call O&R at 877-434-4100 or Orangetown Police at 845-359-3700.

If your power is down at home, and you feel you are in any danger and need a place to stay, please call Jen White at 914-282-3068 or 845-353-4216 for assistance to make arrangements.

There will be a shelter opening at seven pm tonight at Rockland Community College, 145 College Road, Suffern.  It will be run by the Red Cross and there will be cots and light snacks available.

The initial power outage was extensive, counted at 63,000 O & R customers.  That number has been reduced to 50,000.

Today O&R is focusing on a “cut and clear strategy and damage assessment.”  Power restoration today is limited and full restoration mode starts tomorrow.

Updates will be provided as we receive new information.
