Main Street Streetscape Modification

The Village of Nyack Board of Trustees will implement a slight change to the tree pit areas along the Main Street Streetscape project. In the tree pits in the new sidewalks, we will install Belgium Block Paver Stones around the trees, replacing plantings scheduled for those areas.

This change will allow a greater area for foot traffic along Main Street, and more access to sidewalks from cars parking along Main Street. We have attached a plan sketch of the work required to complete this change.”

Water Main Work — Nyack Plaza Area without water for 3 hours

January 21, 2012 9:05 pm

The Nyack Water department has located the water main break on Franklin Street, and has begun repair work.  Residents within a several block area will not have water for approximately three hours.

The affected area includes residences East and South of Franklin and Jackson, extending to Cedar Hill and East including Nyack Plaza.

This is NOT a boil water alert, but when water returns, residents will need to flush their water as it will initially come out brown/brackish.

Water Main Break on Franklin St.

The Nyack Water Department is working on a water main break at Franklin and Liberty street. Presently no customers are without water service.

Periodic road closures can be expected during the repair work.  Thank you for your patience during the repair.

NO SNOW EMERGENCY

Saturday January 21

NO Snow Emergency will be declared. To repeat: NO Snow Emergency is anticipated for this weekend.

Our new snow policy allows the Village to declare a snow emergency if there is 2 inches or more, but this is not required.

It was decided not to declare an emergency this time.  View our policy HERE.

Please take care if you have to travel and enjoy the snow!

Basketball Courts

The new basketball court in Memorial Park is under construction, and will include Green Infrastructure elements.

The new court will feature a permeable pavement surface that will allow rainfall on the court to percolate back into the soil, thus reducing runoff from a non-permeable surface, which is typical of outdoor basketball court construction.

New lighting will be installed to allow use of the courts at night.

Project Update – Marina Construction

The Nyack Marina is under reconstruction.

The project will include the replacement of the West and South bulkheads, walkways, replacement and re-installation of docks, replacement and re-installation of water and electrical services to the slips, repair of the damaged parking areas adjacent to the West bulkhead and new security fencing.

The construction completion is scheduled for the Spring of 2012. It is our intention to have the Marina open for use by the public for the 2012 season. The Village is also exploring the option of hiring a private Marina operator.

Village Adopts new Snow Policy

Overview

On December 22, 2011, the Village of Nyack adopted a new snow emergency policy which requires all cars to be parked in driveways or public lots throughout much of the village. When a snow emergency is declared, street parking will not be permitted on any village street that falls between Franklin Street and the Hudson River (from West to East) and 5th Ave and Cedar Hill (from North to South). An alert may be declared when two or more inches of snow has fallen. It will be announced on the Village Web site, via email alerts (available through the village web site) and on radio stations covering Rockland County.

For those residents who cannot park in a driveway or a parking lot, vehicles can be parked in the village parking lots at Riverspace, Spear Street, Catherine Street and the Nyack Marina.

Purpose

“The purpose of this policy is to ensure the public safety and welfare during storm conditions which may cause the Village roads to become hazardous to automobile and pedestrian travel, and to ensure adequate passage and access for Emergency Service vehicles, including but not limited to Police, Fire, Ambulance and other providers.”

Enforcement Area

You can view the new policy on-line at http://nyack-ny.gov/snow-emergency-policy.   The policy requires that there will be no parking on the Village Streets as indicted in the attached law and map upon declaration of a Snow Emergency.  The affected streets will be all streets east of Franklin Street, from Cedar Hill Avenue to Fifth Avenue.  A map is also online at the above address.
